Traveling in Norway: the Best Places to See During a Short Getaway

News The covid-19 pandemic has made outdoor traveling and visiting less crowded places more popular than ever. If you want to admire scenic beauty and see interesting sights, Norway might be one of the best places to visit. While a long stay in this country may be pricey for many tourists, a short getaway can be a pleasant and exciting experience that you will remember for years to come.

If you plan to stay in Norway only for several days, do not limit yourself to the capital. Hotels in Oslo are quite expensive but it is still better to book a hotel located close to the city center. Most tourists start their journey in Norway with Oslo as the biggest airport in the country is located in the capital. The capital’s major attractions include the Oslo Opera House, the Royal Palace, the National Museum, the Munch Museum, Grand Hotel, Parliament building, and Karl Johaus Gate Road. Visit the Munch Museum to see famous “The Scream” painting and then move to Aker Brygge harbor – most tourists come here to take pictures of old ships. Finally, the Grünerløkka neighborhood is a trendy place for everyone who likes partying at night or visiting cute vintage shops in the daytime.

Do not stay in Oslo for too long as adventures are calling! Book a hotel in Bergen as this is probably the second-most-popular tourist location in Norway. There is one really great thing about the road to Bergen – you will have to change trains and will see some of the most spectacular natural sights of Norway on the go. The legendary Fjord cruise and the Flam Railway offer breath-taking views.

Mountain ranges, beautiful lakes, and rich wildlife – you will see all these when taking a stop in Hokksund, then heading to Honefoss, and then finally getting on a train to Bergen. Although Bergen is the second-largest city in Norway, it has a very charming and countryside atmosphere. Cute vintage houses with multiple shops and cafes, the eye-catching Bryggen quarter that faces the waterfront, and narrow streets create a small-town charm.

If you want to enjoy a panorama of Bergen and take memorable photographs, the Floban Funicular will take you to a mountain above the city. The ride lasts only 8 minutes, after which you will see the entire Bergen behind your feet. Don’t leave this hospitable city without exploring its popular attractions such as the Bergen Castle and fish market.
