Major Wellness Trends for This Year

News Every year, experts underline the main trends in wellness that will shape the industry in the coming year. 2021 is not an exception – the Global Wellness Summit (GWS) identified the top nine trends that reflect all major changes in the world and minds of people. This year, the summit was held online but this fact didn’t prevent thousands of people from visiting it virtually.

Wellness is a rapidly developing industry, and its importance has only risen in the wake of the global pandemic. People understood the importance of good health even more than before and the risk of untreated chronic diseases. This caused a spike in demand for preventative wellness, making immune health one of the biggest trends in wellness for 2021. Immune health, metabolic health, microbiome, and personalized nutrition have become increasingly sought after these days. The next trend might be quite unexpected – Hollywood and Entertainment companies try to expand their business and will offer wellness-related products in 2021. Content for Smart TVs, meditation and yoga apps, immersive TV shows, special music for sleep and focus, and even neuroscience-created sounds based on your biometry – the list of products already available on the market is incredibly rich.

Improved breathwork has attracted bigger audiences recently. Scientists from Stanford, Harvard, and John Hopkins have proved that correct breathwork can strengthen the immune system and improve both physical and mental health. Breathwork parties and even festivals can become big once the pandemic-related restrictions are over. More attention will be paid to wellness in architecture too.

A deeper connection between wellness and healthcare will continue in 2021 as well. Medicine becomes more lifestyle-oriented and less formal, helping patients to reach optimal health by combining different approaches. Octave’s Sangha hotel in Suzhou, China, is a great example of how these two disciplines can work together. The next 2021 trend in wellness is connected with the anti-racism protests of last summer. Today, it is important for the industry to change its sometimes “elitist” image and underline that wellness is for everyone, not only upper-class white people.

Finally, the pandemic might have changed the way we meet and interact with other people. Hybrid in-person and online meetings might become standard for the new normal. Wellness is no exception, so the industry needs to offer more remote options.
