Located in the Atlantic Ocean, the island of Bishop Rock is a true champion of the Guinness Book of Records. It is the smallest of the built-up islands in the world. The first lighthouse on the island was built in the mid 19th century. Reliable granite blocks with a total weight of around 6 000 tonnes were used to build the facility. The height of the lighthouse is 49 meters, and there is a helipad on its top. Until 1992, the superintendent lived permanently in the lighthouse of Bishop Rock. After that the lighthouse was automated.
Currently, the water close to the island of Bishop Rock is full of sunken ships. After construction of the lighthouse, the number of accidents has decreased significantly. The first facility on the island was built back in 1849, but it was destroyed during one of the storms. The lighthouse that travelers can see today was built in 1858. It is characterized by an incredibly robust structure. Each year it experiences more than 30 of the strongest storms. Today, the lighthouse is well equipped. It can accommodate up to four people. Each year, the island lost in the Atlantic Ocean is visited by lighthouse keepers and workers who are servicing it. Next - Chess Pavilion
