Chateau d Usse, France
From series “The Most Wonderful Castles and Palaces”Year: 15th century.
Among the beautiful castles, which are situated in the valley of the Loire river, one must first mention the Ussé castle. The exterior of the castle is unique. Today it is unknown to the historians how the first building, erected in the 15th century, looked exactly. Over a period of more than 500 years the castle had more than ten owners, and each of them wanted to rebuild the castle to their own taste. Despite the numerous reconstructions, the castle has received an extensive collection of furniture. In his large gallery the huge collection of the Flemish tapestries and the old weapons is presented.
An interesting fairytale story is connected with the wonderful French castle. As the legend tells, Charles Perrault liked to visit the castle. The old castle and the surrounding landscapes have inspired the world famous fairy tale writer to write the story about the 'Sleeping Beauty'. Today one can see in one of the castle towers an interesting exposition, which is dedicated to the famous fairy tale. Another special feature of the castle Ussé are the wax figurines that have been incorporated into its interior. They look very realistic and present the scenes from the life of the former owners of the castle.
