Golden Gate Bridge can be called an outstanding man-made structure. It's laid in San Francisco, USA, across the bay of the same name. The bridge was opened in 1937. It connects the city of San Francisco and the southern part of Marin County. From its opening and until 1964, it remained the longest suspension bridge in the world, with the length of 2 737 meters.
Construction of the bridge lasted for 4 years. Its grand opening was held on May 27, 1937. It's noteworthy that according to the rules the first 12 hours after the opening, the Golden Gate Bridge was open only to pedestrians. The first vehicles weren't allowed to drive on it until the next day. Since its opening, the bridge was of great importance for residents, because there was no ferry across the bay. A trip by boat was long and dangerous.
