Ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza, located in the northern part of the Yucatan Peninsula, is one of the most visited attractions in the world. Every year, tens of thousands of travelers come to the Mayan cultural center to stroll through its streets, admire the mysterious pyramids and unique places of worship. According to scientists, the city was founded in the 7th century BC.
The main mystery of the ancient city is the reason for its depopulation, which occurred in 1194. For unknown reasons, the large and prosperous city, which had recovered from attacks and looting, went deserted overnight. For many years, Chichen Itza was being a regular venue for the archaeological research. Scientists managed to discover lots of historical monuments. The center of the ancient city is the Temple of Kukulkan, the huge 24-meter pyramid. Numerous secrets and mysteries are associated with it.
