From series “Amazing Cities on the Rocks”
The stone city of Mesa Verde never ceases to attract the attention of travelers, even though it has been uninhabited for several hundred years. This unique city was founded in the prehistoric era. It is the main part of the national park of the same name today. There are about 4,000 objects on the territory of the ancient city at present. There are stone houses built right in the rocks and caves among them. Some of them even have their names. Cliff Palace, Spruce Tree House, and Balcony House are considered the most interesting houses.
These amazing houses were built by the Anasazi Indians. They are one of the main pieces of evidence of their high level of development. The most recent stone houses were built in the city about 800 years ago. Rock houses are perfectly preserved due to the arid climate prevailing in these places. A series of archaeological investigations have been conducted in the area. It was determined that the very first people began to settle in these places more than 2.5 thousand years ago.
