Kizhi Pogost, Russia Nowadays, Kizhi is a unique open-air museum, the territory of which was significantly expanded in 1966. Part of the preserved in Karelia wooden chapels has been transported to the island, as well as outbuildings and houses of local residents. The most outstanding and recognizable structure of the ensemble is the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, which was laid on the island back in 1714.

For visitors to the island of Kizhi, not only ancient wooden buildings, but also collections of antiquities presented in some of them, are of great interest. In some of the former apartment buildings, the furnishings of the last years have been as accurately as possible recreated. In the houses one can see old household items, handicraft articles and old utensils, old stoves and spinning wheels, as well as old wooden furniture. Visitors of the museum-reserve will have an opportunity not only to see incredibly beautiful monuments of architecture, but also to get acquainted with the culture and the way of life of the indigenous population.
