Allen Telescope Array

Allen Telescope Array, USA

From series “Incredible Labs for Space and Physics Research”

Year: 2011.

The unique Allen Telescope Array station is located in the United States. It was formed by specialists from the SETI Institute, as well as the University of California, Berkeley. This station is a large-scale and complex system. It consists of 42 satellite dishes. The diameter of each such dish antenna is 6 meters. The project organizers plan to increase the number of antennas in the system to 350 in the future.

Allen Telescope Array, USA This unique station is located on the territory of the large-scale Hat Creek Observatory. About 500 kilometers separates this large-scale scientific complex from the city of San Francisco. Continuous reformation and improvement of the complex have been taking place over the past years, even though it was fully operational and allowed for various measurements by 2011. Initially, the station was created to conduct a wide range of radio astronomy observations not only of our galaxies but also of many others.

Huge satellite dishes allow recording flashes of gamma radiation. Thus, they serve a simple and understandable purpose – to search for radio signals from representatives of alien civilizations. A huge installation allows simultaneously monitoring a billion radio channels of different frequencies, as well as controlling radiation on a million stars that are closest to our planet. World-famous astronomer Seth Shostak is the organizer of the project of a huge scientific laboratory. He is sure that he will be able to catch the desired signals sooner or later. But even with the seemingly incredible scope of works, their range is still very narrow. Next - Compact Muon Solenoid
