Clochan an Aifir, United Kingdom
From series “The Most Surrealistic Places of the Earth”
The Irish coast of Antrim is known all over the world thanks to the unique natural attraction that is called Giant's Causeway ('Giant's Dam'). This is an incredibly beautiful and harmonious rock formation, formed by more than 40,000 basalt columns. The fact that the columns extend as a flat path into the sea makes the object even more attractive.
Since ancient times, there is a legend in Ireland, according to which the mysterious path from the outstanding fighter Fionn mac Cumhaill was to fight with the sea monster. The modern scientists combine the appearance of the strange 'path' with the strong volcanic eruption that happened more than 50 million years ago. At present the natural site is protected by the National Fund and is one of the most visited objects in Northern Ireland.
