The name Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday". The festival is religiously rooted and celebrated on the last Tuesday before the start of the Catholic Lent.

During the festival you can see musical performances and art exhibitions in the streets of New Orleans. Street actors with a rich makeup and original costumes are the main feature of the holiday.
