Staritsa catacombs, Russia The stone that was mined in mines has been used for construction of Tver; the famous Kamenny Monastery was built of it. During the WWII, the quarry was used as armories, and in the postwar period quarrying here was conducted for a short time. In the middle of the 20th century, old mines were closed.
