The Winter Palace remains one of the most famous and visited attractions of the cultural capital of Russia. It was built in 1754. Construction was completed in 1762. The legendary architect Rastrelli worked on the design of the palace. It is noteworthy that the very first Winter Palace was built in its place in 1708. It has been completely rebuilt five times in less than 50 years. The palace was used for its intended purpose from its foundation until 1904, as the official winter residence of Russian emperors.

Winter Palace, Russia The residence was moved to the Alexander Palace by order of Nicholas II in 1904. The Winter Palace was abandoned for a while. The hospital operated in it in 1915. It served to house the Provisional Government during the revolutionary period. The opening of the State Museum of the Revolution took place in the palace in 1920. It was open until 1941. The museum is located in the palace building today. It is called the Small Hermitage. Many halls of the former Imperial residence are available for visiting as part of the tour.

Petrovsky Hall is of great interest. The old interiors are best preserved in it. The coat-of-arms hall is also interesting. It is used for storing valuable historical relics. The military gallery will appeal to history fans. It was formed in honor of the victory of the Russian army over Napoleon in 1812. Samples of ancient weapons are stored in the gallery.
