Ottobeuren Abbey, Germany
From series “Rococo Architecture – Famous Monuments”Year: 18 century.
Ottobeuren Abbey is of great interest to connoisseurs of ancient architecture. It is located in the Bavarian town of the same name. The history of the foundation of this Benedictine monastery dates back to the 8th century. According to historical data, the Blessed Toto was its founder. The Abbey has experienced more than one period of serious decline over hundreds of years of existence. It was repeatedly rebuilt. The Abbey building itself is also of great historical interest today. But many tourists visit these places for a different purpose. They want to see the magnificent Ottobeuren Basilica.
It was built to mark the millennium since the Abbey was founded in the mid-18th century. The exterior of the church and its interior design is considered true examples of the Rococo style. The facade of the church looks quite modest in comparison with the rich interior decoration. Wonderful frescoes, carved columns and ceilings, as well as elements of decoration with gilding, adorn its hall inside. You can see many wonderful frescoes with biblical themes on the walls and ceiling of the church. They are considered one of the most beautiful in Germany.
