Its collection grew rapidly. Therefore, the decision to transfer it to the Victoria Memorial Museum was made in 1911. The gallery moved to a new location once again in 1962. It took one of the vacant buildings on Elgin Street. The museum got its building only in 1988. The spectacular glass and granite building is considered an important architectural landmark for Ottawa today.

It was designed by architect Moshe Safdie. The museum began to attract many tourists after the original sculpture called "Maman" was installed in front of it. A creepy-looking spider is captured on it. The height of the unusual sculpture is 10 meters. Sophisticated glass elements are the main architectural feature of the gallery. They make the building look like a huge crystal.

Such glazed parts have not only a decorative but also a practical purpose. The sun's rays easily penetrate through them on a clear day. They fill the gallery rooms with natural light. Visitors to the National Gallery of Canada will have the opportunity to see the unique masterpieces of Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet, Marc Chagall and Salvador Dali. The museum's collection includes several tens of thousands of exhibits. You will need more than one day to view it completely. If you visit the gallery during the warm season, you should take a walk around its adjacent territory and appreciate the grandiose building from various angles. The territory of the museum is decorated with many landscape and sculptural compositions. To the beginning - Holloway Circus Tower
