Enchanting productions of sensational Broadway musicals were held in the theater in the 60s. "Carousel", "The King and I", as well as many others were among them. The original fame and popularity of the theater quickly faded. It was depressing and was gradually destroyed at the beginning of the 21st century. The city authorities did not have the funds to repair the historic building. The closure threatened the once-popular theater.

The famous oil magnate David Koch took the initiative to provide the theater with $100 million in 2008. These funds were sufficient not only for the reconstruction of the cultural center but also for its successful maintenance over the next few years. The beautiful theater bears the name of its new patron today. Many of the original elements were restored during the last reconstruction.

The millionaire provided a huge sum for the reconstruction of the theater with one condition. The theater was to bear his name for at least 50 years thereafter. The theater can be renamed after this period. But, according to the agreement, the Koch family can refuse the proposed new name once. The theater is very large. It has a rich design. 2,586 people can be accommodated in its hall at a time. New large chairs were installed in the hall during the reconstruction process. Luxurious carpets adorn it. Many valuable works of art have been stored in the theater since its opening. Its visitors will have the opportunity to see beautiful sculptures and art paintings by famous masters.
