Goseck Circle

Goseck Circle, Germany

From series “The Most Mysterious Constructions of the Planet”

Year: 4900 BC.

In the German town of Goseck, there is a curious Neolithic circular moat, called the 'Kreisgrabenanlage Goseck'. This is a group consisting of several concentric trenches, whose diameter is about 75 meters, as well as palisade rings, which are supplemented with the gates in the specific places. The unusual construction was discovered by the researchers quite recently, in 1991. During a flight over this terrain the researchers have noticed the strange round silhouette on the wheat field.

Goseck Circle, Germany In 2002 the archaeological excavations started in this area, conducted by Francoises Bertem from the University of Halle-Wittenberg. The remarkable neolithic complex discovered by the archaeologists once had an important and precise purpose. The complex has an astronomical orientation, its southern corridors point precisely to the places of sunrise and sunset to winter solstice.

These have led the scientists to the idea that the old astronomical observatory could be located on the site of the Goseck circular excavation site. Perhaps such formations helped people to form the exact moon calendar several thousand years ago. If the assumptions of the scholars are confirmed, the Goseck circular excavation facility will be the oldest existing solar observatory on Earth. According to the approximate estimates, the observatory was erected about 4900 years bc. Next - Delhi Pillar
