From series “The Most Mysterious Constructions of the Planet”

Year: 415 grams. Height: 7 meters.

The Indian city of Delhi has a mysterious landmark - the Iron Column. It is located on the outskirts of the city and was built according to the scholars' opinion about 1 600 years ago. Although the column was entirely made of iron, it was not damaged by the corrosion in the course of so long existence, and has retained its original appearance for more than 16 centuries. The modern scientists do not find any explanations for this strange fact, and can not even explain the manner of the column formation.

The locals consider the Iron Column as a real miracle and believe in their magical power. Many claim that after the contact of the column many diseases are healed and the realization of desires can be reckoned with. The height of the giant iron column is 7 meters, its approximate weight is about 6.5 tons.

In contrast to many mysterious buildings in the world, the history of the Iron Column of Delhi is well known. It was erected 415 years in honor of the two-year-old ruler Chandragupta II, and was part of the temple complex. In 1050 the column was moved to the other part of Delhi by order of the ruler Anang Pol, where they can be seen today. In the 5th century, iron was considered to be one of the most important attributes of the rich and flourishing state, so it is no wonder that this material was used for pillar building. For many years the scholars have been trying to guess some secrets of the Delhis column. The hypotheses, however, only arouse new questions. According to one of the versions, the column was forged from special pure iron. Where was this material won, but remains unclear. Next - Fortress Saksayuman
