The beautiful and outstanding city Jaisalmer has placed in India. The town lies in the heart of the Great Indian Desert. Jaisalmer is full of sandy-coloured houses. About 58 000 people live in the area of 5,1 square meters. Rawal Jaisal in the 12th century had built a large fortress atop of the hill. The fortress was used as his and predecessors’ residence.
The city’s history is full of tragic events since the 14th century when Jaisalmer fell to pieces and was destructed. The town stands on a ridge of yellowish sandstone that’s why this material was used in the building. Thanks to that there had appeared the unique architectural ensemble. A lot of tourists come here to delight on it. The main symbol of Jaisalmer is the old fortress, back from the fort there are a lot of outstanding buildings. This fortress contains several ornate Jain temples and a repository where the old handwrites are hidden.
