The Bosporus Bridge, located in Istanbul, is a unique architectural project. Originally, the bridge was intended not only for road traffic, but also for pedestrians. Later the citizens were closed. Too many people chose the Bosporus Bridge as a place for suicide. In order to prevent the accidents, it was decided to close the Bosporus Bridge for the pedestrians.

The main bridge of Istanbul is characterized by impressive size. Its length is 1 560 meters, and width - 33 meters. The bridge is 64 meters above the water. Officially, the bridge was opened in October 1973, although its foundation began much earlier, still in 1950. The grandiose project cost more than 200 million US dollars. The specialists of the German company Hochtief as well as the employees of the English company Cleveland Engineering have participated in the construction of the bridge.

The importance of the Bosporus Bridge as a traffic intersection can not be assessed as high enough. More than 600,000 people travel daily across the Bosporus. Actually, the bridge connects the European and Asian parts of Istanbul. It was the first bridge to be built over the Bosporus. The only way to enter the bridge - visit the city on the day of the Istanbul Marathon. Part of the marathon path stretches across the bridge. Annually, the bridge is closed for the car transfer for one day. On the ordinary days can only drive over the bridge. The trip over Bosporus Bridge is subject to a fee.
