Shuya River, Russia
From series “The Most Dangerous River Rapids for Rafting”Lenght: 280 km.
A large selection of rivers, which are excellent for rafting, are available in Karelia. The river Shuja is considered one of the best of them. Although this river is the most popular among beginners, Schuja is not so easy. The river flows through the incredibly beautiful areas and is the second longest river in Karelia. Its length is about 280 km.
It is recommended to beginners to start the ride next to the village of Hautovaara. Every ten kilometers, the route becomes more complicated. Small and large tolls are considered to be the most dangerous sleepers. The history of their names is very interesting. It is true that the name comes from the word 'Tul', which is translated from the Karelian dialect as 'the kettle'. The sleepers look really like the huge boilers. The locals believe that the mythical being Tulli - the relative of the Yetis, lives somewhere near the sleepers.
