Aquarium of Genoa, Italy
From series “The Coolest and Largest Oceanariums in the World”Year: 1992.
In Italy, the largest aquarium is located in Genoa. It is the second largest in Europe. Opening of the oceanarium was held in 1992. It was built specially for the opening of Genoa Expo'92 exhibition. The center plays an important educational, environmental, and even historical role. Its opening was timed to the remarkable day - the 500th anniversary of the discovery of New World by Christopher Columbus.
Aquarium of Genoa introduces the typical inhabitants of the Ligurian Sea, the representatives of the North Atlantic Ocean, as well as the typical fauna of the reefs of the Caribbean. Thus, the exposure actually reproduces the sea route, which more than 500 years ago had been sailed by Christopher Columbus. It is also worth noting that the exhibition focuses on the most important environmental problems of the planet. Amazing sightseeing tours and lectures are held there for visitors. The oceanarium area occupies 3 100 square meters. It is visited by about 1.2 million people each year.
