Wind Cave, USA
From series “Largest and Most Branched Caves on Earth”Lenght: 220 km.
The USA is a real leader in the world after the number of long caves. In the state of South Dakota is the fifth longest cave on earth - Wind Cave. The thermal water has contributed to the formation of the lime cave. For thousands of years, the water has shed the mazes of the general length of more than 220 km. The cave is a complicated labyrinth with a lot of great galleries. The entrance to the cave, on the contrary, is quite small; Its diameter is only 35 cm.
The researchers have not expanded the natural entrance, and have instead intersected the additional pit. Today one can climb down into the underground vault at maximum comfort - with the lift. The cave was discovered in 1881. 22 years later the territory around them was declared a national park. Literally, the name of Wind Cave can be translated as 'the cave of the wind'. Wind has contributed in many respects to the formation of unique calcite information. Some of them recall the honeycombs, and the others are linked into the incredibly beautiful patterns and are very fragile.
