Tel Beer Sheva, Israel
From series “The Surviving Artifacts of Jewish Civilization”
Another amazing religious shrine that is important from the historical point of view is the ancient city of Tel Beer Sheva located in the southern part of Israel. Researchers have discovered it relatively recently, in the 70s of the last century. The oldest of the finds dates back to the 4th century BC. Findings relating to the 2nd century BC are much more interesting. They indicate that there was a large village, whose residents had knowledge and skills that were outstanding for that age.
They skillfully processed an ivory, were able to melt the metal and make necessary tools of stone, as well as build unique underground rooms. Today, travelers can see the archaeological area with ruins of buildings that have been built by the inhabitants of Judah. In the heyday of the city, there were about 60 houses. Reasons for this large and prosperous city to become empty are unknown. Scientists were able to discover that it happened before the destruction of the First Temple.
