Sir Roger Gilla was the founder of this castle. He built a fortress on a rocky cliff. A water channel located nearby served as a natural protection for it. The castle's owner, Sir William Brooke O'Shaughnessy, was forced to flee persecution to France in the late 17th century. The castle was confiscated after his departure. However, the O'Shaughnessy family officially remained the owners of the castle until 1729. The luxurious six-story castle once had an incredibly beautiful exterior and interior decoration. It has lost much of its former greatness over the past 300 years.

However, some elements of the design managed to survive after hundreds of years. You can see the loophole windows on the third-floor level today. Part of the defensive wall is also preserved in the castle. Excursion to the Fiddaun Castle will appeal to those who love hiking in the beautiful natural places. The castle is located on a small hill. Wonderful panoramic views of the lake and the nearby village of Tubber can be enjoyed from the surrounding area. The village of Tubber is also interesting for its historical attractions. Many buildings of different eras have been preserved in it. Next - Barberstown Castle
