Bakun Dam has placed on the Balui River. This Malaysian dam is known all over the world, it adores with its tremendous size. Its height is 205 meters, length – 750 meters. The dam has been built for 15 years, the building was finished in 2011. The dam was built in order to power the area with electricity. Today Bakun Dam provide with electricity different parts of the country, such as Eastern Malaysia.

Bakun Dam, Malaysia The building of dam caused a lot of arguments and misunderstandings. Some researchers suppose that this dam inflict irreparable damages on unique nature of the region. When the dam was built, about 700 square meters of rainforests were flooded. These tropical forests had a lot of endemic plants. Not only nature suffered heavy losses but also people. 9 000 people have to leave their private houses because they were at risk of flooding.

This problem didn’t fall on deaf ears. The director Chow Lam paid a lot of attention to the dam’s building. He did a documental movie consists of 5 series. Every series is devoted to one major problem of dam building. Today it is planned to build a number of new hydroelectric power stations. Thousands of people vote against such innovations.
