Frederiksberg Slot, Denmark
From series “Impressive Castles and Palaces Located on Water”Year: 17th century.
In Denmark, on Zealand Island, the tourists can see the ancient Frederiksborg Castle, one of the best examples of Italian Baroque style. The castle was built in the late 17th century for King Frederik IV. The outstanding architect Ernst Brandenburger worked on his project. Still in childhood the future King of Denmark had visited Italy and was inspired by the chic Italian architecture. When Frederik IV became ruler of the country, he fulfilled his dream and erected a wonderful palace on the water. The exterior of the palace was personally designed by the king.
Until the middle of the 19th century the castle remained a royal family residence, and since 1868 belongs to the royal military academy. Most rooms of the palace are open to visitors. The rich art collection is preserved in the castle. Of particular interest are the ancient altars, made from the precious metals of Denmark's finest jewelers. The old organ is interesting for the connoisseurs of classical music. In the small courtyards of the castle the ancient fountains and sculpture compositions have been preserved.
