Euro Tunnel, United Kingdom - France
From series “The Greatest Tunnels in the World”Year: 1994.
Eurotunnel lies under the English Channel. It started operating train services in 1994 and currently remains one of the greatest attractions in Europe. The railway tunnel links two states - the United Kingdom and France and lies between the towns of Folkestone and Calais. The tunnel is famous for its shuttle service. Eurotunnel Shuttle is the world’s biggest train conveying vehicles.
Eurotunnel can boldly be called a historic sight. The first construction plan was developed in 1802. The heavy political interactions between the states had suspended the project for nearly 200 years so the construction began in 1988 only. The tunnel has a length of about 51000 metres but a travel time is just 20 or 35 minutes.
