One has begun to erect the first litter structures on the Bhagirati River in 1978. And in 2006 the hydroelectric power plant was put into operation. The construction of the hydroelectric power plant is unique, its machine room is located at the depth of 300 meters, which was at the time of the opening of the world record. The construction of the Tehri dam was one of the most controversial projects of recent years. The environmental protection organizations disagreed with the project.

The ecologists believe that the construction of such a huge energy complex in the Himalayan pre-mountain regions would have a negative impact on the ecosystem of this unique region. Among the architectural companies, there were also many opponents of the dam building. Tehri Damm is located in the earthquake-prone district. The last major earthquake happened here in 1991. Many construction workers consider the structure of the dam to be extremely unreliable. Nevertheless Tehri Damm has been working for almost 10 years. And nature in the surroundings of the complex attracts as many tourists as before. Next - Vajont Dam
