On the territory of the Republic of Dagestan is a huge dam. Chirkei Dam on the Sulak River was built in 1974. Its height is 232.5 meters, the dam building has demanded about 1 300 thousands cubic meters of concrete. The length of the dam is also quite impressive and forms 338 meters. In 1964, the Bogendamm was still to be built. The construction work had been postponed for ten years because of the necessity of the rock eruption.
At present, Chirkei hydroelectric power station is the most powerful not only in Dagestan but also in the territory of Caucasus. Chirkei Dam is the second largest dam in Russia. The hydroelectric structure of the impressive size erected for the production of electric power has led to the formation of the incredibly beautiful and large water basin. Just 50 years ago, the small villages were in its place. During the construction, more than 800 houses were moved from Chirkei Aul. More than 3,000 hectares of the agricultural countries were flooded.
