Chapel La Estancia, Mexico
From series “Glass Architecture - Impressive Villas and Buildings from Glass”Year: 2007.
Cuernavaca, Mexico, became known to the world thanks to its outstanding wedding Chapel La Estancia. It is situated on the territory of a picturesque garden that for a number of years is being used for wedding ceremonies. In 2007 one of the local young architects decided to build in this garden a small glass chapel. Later, he celebrated his own wedding there. Chapel La Estancia is a nice and airy place. Only at first glance, the project of this building looks easy.
Originally the architect wanted to make the whole building in the glass. For the realization of this idea, there must be done a complex system of ventilation in order to escape the greenhouse effect. The floor and the ceiling in the chapel are made from wood, the walls forming glass flat-topped panels that are put 10 centimetres from each other. Consequently, even in a scorching day the room is naturally ventilated. Since that the chapel is hidden under the head of spreading trees, it is a good place where you can escape from the heat.
