Chateau de Vincennes, France
From series “The greatest France castles ”Year: 14 century.
The beautiful Castle of Vincennes was built for the French kings in the 14th century. The hunting estate was located on its site earlier. The castle was located on the territory of a vast forest at the time of construction. The large city of Vincennes has formed around it over the years. It is one of the main suburbs of Paris today. One of the first major reformations of the castle took place during the reign of Philip VI, in the 14th century. The castle significantly expanded its scope during this period. It had a new tower built. Its height was 52 meters.
The king equipped his luxurious chambers and library in this tower. One of the most difficult stages in the history of the castle took place in the 16th century. It was a time of religious wars. The former royal residence was converted into a prison during this period. Vincennes Castle regained the status of a royal residence after a hundred years. But it was again turned into a prison in the 18th century. The porcelain manufacture occupied part of the historic building. A series of historical trials in no way affected the majestic appearance of the castle. Its facade has remained unchanged for more than 500 years.
