Chateau de Rivau, France The first powerful donjon was built during this period. The fortress was surrounded by a dry moat. A drawbridge was also installed here. It served as the main entrance to the castle. It is noteworthy that the new owner of the fortress sought to make not just an impregnable defensive structure but a comfortable home for himself and his family during its reconstruction. Château du Rivau owes much of its architectural features to these aspirations, in particular, numerous windows. They are quite unusual for the architecture of medieval castles.

Château du Rivau is one of the few castles in France that has managed to completely avoid battles. That is why the building has been preserved almost unchanged to this day. The fortress has repeatedly changed its status over the past 150 years. It was part of the farm at a certain period. The fortress was owned by a local artist later. The building was in a neglected state by the end of the 20th century. The famous family bought it out in 1991. A complete reconstruction was carried out at the expense of this family. The fortress has been open for guided tours since 2000. A gorgeous garden was laid out on its adjacent territory. Next - Chateau de Lichtenberg
