Chateaudun is one of the most beautiful castles of the Loire. It is located in the city of the same name. The castle was built in the 12th century. The area of the fortress was significantly expanded in the second half of the 15th century. It has remained almost unchanged since then. The old tower-donjon is preserved in the castle. Its height is 31 meters. A large chapel is also preserved in the castle. It attracts with its unique design.
The donjon tower is considered the oldest element of the architectural monument. It was built in 1190. This tower was used to store food in the past. You can visit its upper part during the tour today. Unique frescoes are considered the main value of the medieval castle. The painting depicting the motifs of the Last Judgment is considered the most spectacular among them. It will be interesting to visit the castle for all fans of medieval art. A collection of unique tapestries from the 15th-16th centuries is kept in it. Tapestries which subjects are dedicated to the life of the prophet Moses are considered the most valuable among them.
