Faraday Bar, Antarctica
From series “The Most Extraordinary Bars and Café on the Planet”
Even in Antarctica, you can spend the vacation with a glass of vine. The outstanding "Faraday Bar" – the southernmost bar in the world – is situated there. It was founded by ordinary British woodworkers, who built the scientific station "Faraday". When the station was built, a lot of wood had left. That's how the idea to build an English pub has appeared. The bar is located on Galindez Island and since 1996 the owners of the bar are the Ukrainians. Nevertheless, it has saved its original charm and some traditions.
The bar is quite small and not so tremendously decorated. All the furniture is made of the wood. The first visitors to the bar were members of the scientific station. For last years, the bar became popular among tourists. It has an extraordinary tradition: from its first days of work all women were met as VIP guests in this snowy part of the world.
