The prison continued to be used for its intended purpose for some time after the end of the war. Interrogations of Polish soldiers were conducted in it. The building that houses the prison was built in the 16th century. It was originally owned by the Montelupich family. It was named after this family. The building was privately owned until the early 20th century. The military court was transferred to it in 1905. The historic building was converted into a prison a few years later.

Montelupich prison became famous in the post-war years also for the reason that death sentences were carried out in it for many years. The most recent death penalty was carried out in 1988. It was the last not only for the prison but for the whole of Poland. The investigation department is located in the historic building today. Therefore, you will not be able to visit it.
