Motu, China

From series “The Most Extreme Settlements on the Planet”

The isolated town of Motu in China has a population of about 10 000 people. Only a 200-meter long suspension bridge connects this settlement with the outside world. Not everyone dares to pass through it. All other roads were destroyed by mudslides and avalanches. Adherents of the Buddhist religion consider Motu to be sacred. It is visited by devotees and pilgrims each year.

Motu, China This town is situated among impenetrable Tibetan mountains. Those who have visited these places at least once in their lives will never forget their beauty and calming atmosphere. However, it's not easy to get to this picturesque area. The only way to Motu passes through the most dangerous mountain areas with permafrost, where the temperature is critically low even in summer. The aforementioned suspension bridge, which was built over a hundred years ago, is only the final stage of an extreme way.

Over the years, there have been several attempts to build another, safer roads. Even 20 years ago, it was possible to drive via the quiet comfortable road, but it is now completely overgrown with forest. Other roads have been destroyed by avalanches and mudflows, which are not uncommon in these places. Locals believe that the place where they live, is sacred. That’s why it does not welcome strangers.
