The canyon with such an unusual name is in Namibia; it is famous for its amazing harmonious appearance. The length of the canyon is 161 kilometers and the depth is only 550 meters, which is quite modest in comparison with global giants. However, it can really claim to be one of the first places in the world for its beauty. The canyon owes its name to the longest river in Namibia, Fish River. Canyon formation occurs continuously, as the river is swift and bubbling stream in the rainy season. In times of drought, the river dries up, so small lakes form at the bottom of the canyon.
More relaxing holidays are associated with the drought period, while Fish River Canyon attracts adventurers in the midst of the rainy season. Strolling along the sandy slopes of the canyon at this time is incredibly dangerous; trips to the bottom of the gorge are thrilling, as it could flood at any time. Recently this canyon became a permanent venue for the marathon. The segment of the path that runners have to overcome is considered one of the toughest in the world and not without reason; it goes through the difficult terrain. Tourists are recommended to visit these picturesque places in the period from May to October, during a drought. They will have a unique opportunity to walk through the gorge free of bubbling streams of Fish River.
