Island Tiwi Beaches, Australia
From series “Dangerous and Treacherous Beaches That Can Be Lethal”
The Australian beaches have been the most dangerous in the world for many years. And among them one must mention the coast of the island of Tiwi. The main danger on the picturesque and quiet beaches are the dice jellyfish, which lead to burns of which often lead to a deadly exit. The cube jellyfish have a very specific and rare, paralyzing poison. When you hit the tiny jellyfish at the great depth, the survival chances are as good as minimal.
The cube jellyfish are relatively small, sometimes not more than 2 - 3 cm. With care, it is difficult to notice the dangerous jellyfish in the water. During the last two decades, 32 incinerations of Medusae have been registered on the Australian coast. 14 of them were fatal. The most dangerous are the burns for the children, which often can not be saved. Most jellyfish accumulate near the coast of Tiwi Island in the period from the beginning of October to the end of April. At this time, it is forbidden to bathe on the local beaches. The experts note that the poisonous jellyfish are most active in the afternoon.
