Canyon Psaho, Russia

In Russia, there are also several places with dangerous faults. One of them is situated in Sochi National Park. Canyon Psaho is a real tectonic fault. The great canyon is divided on two - a dry and a wet. On the bottom of the wet canyon goes a river and a dry part doesn't have streams and rivers. The dry canyon is 200 meters, it was founded more than 70 million years ago at the time of the strong earthquake.

The canyon took its name from the nearby river Psaho that after the earthquake has changed the corridor. Today the wonderful canyon is one of the most picturesque and unique places in the region. Its slopes are covered with nice Colchian forests that are full of rare plants. There grow a lot of evergreens plants. The walk there can be nice at any season. These places are interesting not only from nature but also from the archaeological point. The canyon has several unique karst caves where were found stops of the ancient people.

During the walk in the canyon you can see a lot of wonderful waterfalls, fast streams and adore with a marvellous mountain gorges. Recently the bottom of the dry canyon was open only for professional researchers with the special equipment. Today the place is open for tourists. There were put wooden staircases for safe walks. Nevertheless, it is not a good decision to visit this place in monsoon. Alternatively to other canyons, Canyon Psaho doesn't have high seismic activity. Next - The Great African Rift
