The most famous monastery is Anba Beshoy and the church of St. Psoy situated on its territory.

Shrine of Sohag City, Egypt The exact history of the emergence of religious sites is unknown. Using the available manuscripts, researchers only found out that shrines were built in the 5th century. After more than 1 500 years, the old monastery has survived perfectly.  A series of unique Christian jewels were preserved in its walls. Visitors of the old monastery will be able to see the triple sanctuary with well-preserved altar ledges and niches, as well as to admire the luxurious finish of the church and paintings on walls.

Modern Sohag is a large industrial city with a population of over 130 000 people. This city is home to one of the country's largest Christian communities. The last few years, authorities are making a lot of efforts for the development of tourist infrastructure of the city. It began to attract many pilgrims. First-class hotels were opened there. Construction of the Archaeological Museum has begun in the city quite recently. There is a number of unique attractions in the vicinity of Sohag.
