The Grand Canal is another permanent symbol of China and one of the country's most recognizable landmarks. This navigable channel is one of the oldest in the world. It took almost two thousand years to build it. This canal began to be built in the 6th century BC. The formation of a unique hydraulic structure was fully completed in the thirteenth-century ad. The canal still does not lose its importance, despite the fact that more than one hundred years have passed since its construction.
The length of the canal excluding branches is 1,782 km. If we take into account the branches to Beijing and other major cities in its structure, the total length of the waterways will be about 2,470 km. The maximum width of the channel is 350 meters. The widest place is in Shanghai. The channel has 21 gateways. It is in no way inferior to the Great Wall of China in its entertainment.
