Landungsbrucken Embankment is the real symbol of modern Hamburg. It was built at the place of the historic port district HafenCity. Some time ago this port was the biggest in the world. Its area was about 157 hectares. Nowadays Elba's coast is a marvellous place for the relaxation. There you can find a great number of entertainment venues, sightseeing, and monuments of the modern architecture. The atmosphere at the embankment is lively. Along with it a lot of historical buildings were saved. That's why tourists like to walk there.
At the embankment you can adore not only with the ancient houses but also with the colourful ships. The most unusual is the shop-lighthouses "LV 1". Several years ago, it was rebuilt in a hotel. Cap San Diego ship is the biggest among all ships that are fasted here. It was built in 1962 and in 1986 was pensioned off. For more than thirty years it has been decorating the Hamburg's harbor. You will see a lot of beautiful fasted ships along the embankment. This harbor can be mentioned as the sea museum in the open air.
