Alcazar de Segovia, Spain
From series “Amazing Ancient Fortresses Preserved to This Day”Year: 9th century.
In Spain, many followers of the walks pass through the historical sites of Segovia. In this picturesque town is the Alcazar Castle. The castle, built in the 9th century, is more than a thousand years old and today is one of the most important sights of the country. The impressively large castle with the high towers was built on the high rock and has changed over the course of more than a thousand years the status several times.
After losing its strategic importance, the castle became a royal palace and served as a gateway to the splendid balls. Later, Alcazar was converted into the state prison. For decades, the royal artillery academy was in the castle. The castle has recently been the largest historical museum in the city. Its rich exposition is presented in 11 rooms and is surprising with the variety of the exhibits, in the number of which there is the extensive collection of ancient weapons and furniture, the portraits of the kings and the carefully restored historical room designs.
