Hawaiian volcanoes are mentioned among the most active in the world. Despite the fact that Kilauea is the youngest among them, this doesn’t diminish its destructive force. Height of the volcano is 1,247 meters; its last eruption has begun January 3, 1983. It has reached peak relatively recently, in March 2011, but Kilauea still continues to erupt today. According to rough estimates of scientists, the crater of the volcano exudes 50,000 m3 of lava annually.

Walking along the slopes of the volcano and surrounding areas is incredibly dangerous, because you can meet hornito sites literally everywhere. Those are fiery craters, from which hot steam comes out; the soil around these formations is always very loose and could collapse at any moment. Kilauea volcano slopes are covered with cracks and lava tunnels, so they look terrifying.

During current eruption, lava flows have destroyed more than a hundred houses of local residents. They rebuilt their homes in short time at places, where there have bbeen raging lava flows only a few months ago; the locals have long been accustomed to live in atmosphere of constant danger. They build their homes on high stilts, so they can be quickly moved to safe location in case of another eruption. Many amazing legends are associated with this dangerous volcano.
