Palm Beach International Airport is a state-run airport, located west of the city of West Palm Beach, the state of Florida, the United States. It is the primary airport of Palm Beach County, and is one of three major airports serving the South Florida metropolitan area. The airfield was founded in 1936 as Morrison Field. During World War II, the airport was used by the U.S. Army Air Forces as a military base. It was twice renamed in 1948 and 1951. In the '50s-'60s of the previous century, the airport served as the main training base, where aviators were trained to fly heavy transport aircraft.
