Portland International Jetport is located next to the business centre of the city. It is the busiest airport in the State of Maine. The passenger traffic of the airport exceeds 1.7 million people per year. Cooperation with low-cost air carriers has made it one of the most accessible airports in the region. The airfield was founded in the late '20s of the previous century and received its first commercial service in 1931. The infrastructure of the airport consists of one terminal and two runways.

Located actually in the city, the airport is served by several means of transport. These are taxis, limousines, and bus routes (Greater Portland Transit District METRO). Car rental services are also available. Route number 5 passes between the airport and the centre of Portland and runs through some of the city's metro stops. Portland International Jetport offers the Portland Explorer shuttle bus. In addition, intercity bus routes go through the airport. In order to completely satisfy the requirements of their clients, the car hire companies encourage advanced booking that allows selecting a suitable vehicle beforehand.

When picking up a rental car, the driver must present an international driver's license, a printed voucher, and a credit card. The leased cars are returned to the parking garage. Note that there is a separate access for these cars opposite the arrival area. So as to find it you should follow the signs.

Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby

The Jetport’s five-storey parking garage offers over 2,000 parking spaces just steps from the terminal. Hourly and long-term parking is available. When the parking garage is overcrowded, vehicles are redirected to the Discount Lot. A free shuttle transports passengers between this parking lot and the airport. The short-term parking is connected to the terminal by a skybridge (the third floor of the terminal). A free parking lot, meant only for passenger pick up, is across the road from the baggage claim area and is equipped with a telephone.

Four hotels are nestled in the vicinity of the airport territory. They are the Hilton Garden Inn, the Embassy Suites, the Clarion, and the Comfort Inn.
