Phoenix–Mesa Gateway Airport is an international airport located in the state of Arizona, USA. It was built in 1941 and was originally named Higley Field. After a year of operation, it was renamed Williams Field in honour of a military pilot killed while serving. In 1948, the airport was renamed Williams Air Base and became a training base for U.S. Air Force military pilots. In 1993, the training base was closed, but, in 1994, the facility was reopened as Williams Gateway Airport. The airport was renamed again and got its current name – Phoenix–Mesa Gateway Airport – in 2007.

Apart from serving regular commercial flights and general aviation, the airline hub serves as an “offloading” airport for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport if traffic gets too busy there. Phoenix–Mesa Gateway Airport is also a training and skill upgrading base for pilots. There are three runways. The airport terminal handles over 1.5 million passengers annually.

To reach the city of Phoenix, you can take a taxi (the parking lots are situated next to the exits from the baggage reclaim area). As for transfer and limousine services, it’s better to order them in advance. There’s a bus stop before the entrance to the terminal near the taxi parking lot.

Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car

You can rent a car at the Phoenix–Mesa Gateway Airport. There are several large companies present here: Alamo, National, Enterprise rent a car, Hertz. The customer service stands are located near the exit from the baggage reclaim area.

A rental car can be taken from the hourly parking lot near the passenger terminal. To get to the place, you should leave the baggage reclaim area and head for the exit from the terminal. The hourly parking lot is on the right of the terminal.

The cars should be returned to a special rental car return lot in front of the terminal on Texas Ave.

One more car rental company called Avis has an office near the airport. Its customer service office is situated at 6343 East Southern Avenue, Mesa. The vehicles provided by the company are taken and returned in the place where their office is located.

Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby

There are several parking options at the airport: an hourly parking lot near the terminal, a daily parking lot near the terminal, an economy parking lot with free transfer to the passenger terminal.

The following hotels can be found near the airport: Four Points by Sheraton, Courtyard, Best Western Legacy Inn and Suites. The hotels are just about 2-4 km away from AZA.
