Airport location, terminals and transportation

Bradley International Airport in Hartford County, Connecticut is located between the cities of Windsor Locks and East Granby. It is the busiest airport of the state. Bradley Field was opened as a military airbase in 1941. It is named in honour of Eugene M. Bradley, the combat pilot, who died when his aircraft crashed on this airfield during a dogfight training drill. The civil use of the airport started in 1948. The airport disposes of 3 runways as well as of Terminals A and B. Terminal A is divided into the East Concourse and the West Concourse.

In order to get from the airport to the city, you can use bus and then train. Connecticut Transit bus routes go to the Windsor Locks and Windsor stations. Amtrak trains depart from these stations. Buses also transport people to Hartford. The airport offers limousine services. In addition, taxi and car rental services are available.

Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car

The following car rental companies operate in the territory of the air terminal: Alamo, Avis Rent-A-Car, Budget, Dollar Rent-A-Car, Enterprise, Hertz, and National. All the firms provide free shuttles which take drivers to the rental car pick-up location. The car rental facilities of the companies are placed in the baggage claim hall, opposite the baggage carousels. The exits from the baggage claim area lead to parking lots and the transportation level.

When renting a car you will need to present a valid driver's license. If the entries in your driver's license are not written in Latin script, both national and international ones will be required. Both your driver's license and your identity card must contain your photo. You will also be required to produce a printed advance reservation voucher (in case a preliminary online reservation has been made). The driver must be aged 25 or over. If the driver is aged between 21 and 24 years, the company charges the additional fee, which will be added to the rental cost.

The rental cost includes taxes, car liability insurance, the insurance in case of car accident or theft, the airport surcharge, and payment for maintenance (if necessary). It should be considered that some taxes are not included in the declared rental value. These are the taxes on credit card payment, the driver's young age, introducing the second driver into the agreement and others. All supplementary services (for example, a baby seat, a luggage rack, navigation, a dashboard camera and so on) are subject to availability and paid separately.

Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby

The airport provides various parking options. Long-Term and Short-Term Parking areas are found near Terminal A. Express Shuttle Lot and Economy Lots (lots 3 and 4) provide drivers with a shuttle service between Terminal A and the parking lots around the clock. Park & Walk Lot 2 is within short walking distance of Terminal A and the International Arrivals Building. Shuttle service is not offered to this parking lot.

The Sheraton Hartford Hotel is adjacent to the Terminal A building. The following hotels are nestled not far from the airport: the Candlewood Suites, the Days Inn, the Doubletree Hotel, the Hampton Inn, the Homewood Suites and others. The majority of hotels lying in the vicinity of the airport offer a free shuttle service to the hotel and back.
