Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport is located in the territory of Dania Beach, a few kilometres away from the business district of the city of Fort Lauderdale (the state of Florida). The airport was built on the former golf course at the end of the '30s of the last century. The original name of the old airport was Merle Fogg Airport. During World War II the airfield served as a military airbase. In 1946, it was transferred to the administration of Broward County and its name was changed. The airport got its current name in 1959. Since the '90s of the previous century, it has been one the main airports of the state. It services about 33 million passengers a year. FLL encompasses two runways and four terminals.

The airport is connected with the central part of the city of Fort Lauderdale by bus number 1, departing from Terminal 1. The airport is linked to the cities of Miami and West Palm Beach by rail service. The Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport station is accessible via free shuttles from the terminals. Taxi and limousine services are available. Moreover, transport network companies are authorized to provide their services at the airport (the pick-up/drop-off zones between Terminals 1/2 and 3/4).

Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car

Car rental services are provided at the airport in the Consolidated Rental Car Center. The Center features 12 vehicle hire firms. These include Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, E-Z, Hertz, National, Payless, Royalrac, and Thrifty. The agencies of these firms can be found on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th levels of the Center building.

You can get from T1 to the Rental Car Center by a pedestrian bridge from the Concourse B (level 2). The pedestrian bridge is placed near the security checkpoint. Free shuttle buses take passengers from Terminals 2, 3 and 4 to the Rental Car Center. They depart from the curb in front of the terminal, at the exits from the baggage claim areas (the lower level of the terminals). Arriving passengers should follow the signage leading to the shuttle bus pick-up areas. The Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The rental cars are collected from and returned to the Rental Car Center.

The number of car rental companies offers their services outside the territory of the airport and, therefore, do not operate in the Rental Car Center. They are ACE, Karls van rent, Easirent, Thrifty, Fox, Silvercar, and Sixt. In order to take advantage of their services, you should get to the Rental Car Center of the airport and proceed to the bus stop number 7. Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby

The airport has several types parking lots, which are daily and hourly ones. They are positioned on different levels of parking garages stationed in the territory of the airport, next to the terminals. There is an overflow parking lot on the western side of the airport, which is used when all the parking spaces are full. Valet parking services are available in the three designated curbside locations. Trams run between the terminals and the parking garages.

A number of hotels and motels are nestled in the vicinity of the airport. These are the Holiday Inn Express, the Vacation Inn Motel, the Haven Hotel, Homewood, the Fairfield Inn & Suites, the Candlewood Suites, the Courtyard by Marriott, the Motel 6 and others.
